Despite a bad loss to Florida State in Tallahassee earlier in the season, Florida QB Danny Wuerffel led the Gators by completing 18 of 34 passes for 309 yards and 3 TDs while running for one as the Gators' 52-20 smashed rival Florida St. in the 1997 Sugar Bowl giving Steve Spurrier and the Florida Gators their first national title.
